Abstract
A number of ways were reported of treating the disabilities of proximal interphalangeal joints which have led to fixed flexion or extension deformity caused by trauma.
When the joint can not move, resection implant arthroplasty of the proximal interphalangeal joint is preferred.
This in spite of the argument for arthrodesis to restore function to the joint.
The present study review the results of two cases of surgical treatment by Swanson design: resection arthroplasty of the proximal interphalangeal joint for sequence of PIP joint injuries respectively. A review on the literature of the PIP joint was made, comparing Flatt¢¥s metal implant prosthesis with silastic implant prosthesis.
There was also an introduction to the surgical use of Silicon at this time.
